For needles, begin with straight, wooden needles in the US size 11.
There are two materials that quality knitting needles are made from: Wood, or metal.
Wood gives you more control, and metal gives you more speed. We recommend that
you start with wood for a few months before moving on to metal.
Both wood and metal needles come as straight needles and circular. Circular needles are a few inches shorter than straight needles, and have a skinny cord that connects the bottoms of each one together (to hold your stitches). After you finish your first scarf, the next pair of needles you buy may be wooden circular needles.
Needles come in many different sizes. The US size 11 is a perfect match for the chunky yarn you will use.
